They can't speak – so I speak for them!

Updated: Apr 20

Recently, several articles were published about an experimental program by the Tel Aviv Municipality that claims to "deal" with jackals in the city. But jackals are not a problem - they are an inseparable part of us, and they are here to stay. They are smart and adaptable animals.

Habitat reduction is bringing them closer to us, and the concept of urban nature is gaining momentum. This is our reality, and we should know how to adapt to it.

Thinning, removal, castration and sterilization - this is not the solution!

What is the solution? Learning to live alongside them - as recommended in Dr. Guy Rotem's study - not feeding them, closing garbage cans and collecting food scraps, tying dogs on a leash.

Coexistence is possible - if we only want to. It depends on both us and the authorities whose job it is to ensure better sanitation conditions, information, education, enforcement and supervision.

Jackals are part of nature, and loving nature does not mean trying to control it, but letting it exist alongside us and respecting it. Because without it we have no true existence. And it will always find its way back.

Today (18.04.205) a new article was published in which I was interviewed and presents a different angle to the story – I invite you to read it. Thanks to Yogev Israeli for this beautiful article
